Description:

Although not the most charismatic pub in the Wetherspoons chain, this converted drapery store offers a varied range of well-kept beers. The pub is in the centre of town, with a bus stop conveniently outside, and is as popular as one expects from Wetherspoons. Beer is consistently good, with several beers being constantly rotated. The pub’s name was at the suggestion of the local CAMRA branch; not only is it the name of the former store, but also that of the first local CAMRA chairman and revered early campaigner. There is an upstairs restaurant which is family friendly. No music, so fulfils the CAMRA definition of a ‘quiet’ pub, but the noise of chattering voices is often cacaphonic!
